TRANQUILITY BASE, THE EAGLE HAS LANDED! Outsider is now available on Steam with a 15% launch discount. The game’s full price, after the 2-week discount period, is $12.99 in the US and Steam-adjusted prices for other regions (for instance, R$39.99 in Brazil).
And… Surprise, surprise! You can also purchase Outsider’s 2-hour soundtrack today, available separately for $3.99 in the US.
You may have been expecting the game to release on Thursday, but after an intense weekend of testing and the sign-off for playtesters, I decided to release the game two days earlier. There would be no point in waiting, so Outsider will join the rare list of games and projects completed ahead of schedule!
The last 45 days were very intense, and I worked almost every day (including weekends) to get here. I’m exhausted, but also very happy to have released the game! I had a couple of weeks to work on polish while the playtesters were going through the final chapters, so I added some nice quality-of-life features. Outsider is even better than I expected, so… Mission Accomplished!
This doesn’t mean, however, that the work is over. I’ll closely monitor forums for feedback, bug reports, and, of course, player reviews…
And, speaking of players, the true market test begins now. This is a real nail-biter because many games launch to poor reviews or, arguably worse, complete irrelevance. Those who follow online game development forums are familiar with the stories that seem to appear almost every week of games that sold less than $500 after years of work! It’s a very competitive market, and now Outsider is part of it.
I hope for the best, but regardless of the outcome, I’m very happy to have had the opportunity to build this game. The work was some of the hardest I’ve ever done. Developing games is nothing like playing them! It is like a very tough software project where, at least in solo development, you lack most of the skills to get the job done. I learned so many new things about writing, art, UI design, programming and, of course, running a game business. The process was at times grueling, but it also led to great personal/career growth.
I’ll take the rest of the year off to go through my personal backlog (dentist appointments, house repairs, physicals, etc.) and will also use the time to figure out the next steps for Galantrix and myself. I already have some solid ideas for the next game, but I’m also considering returning to my old career. Hopefully, maintaining Outsider will leave me enough time to think about everything and, possibly, even build a tiny prototype or two.
This won’t be the last time you’ll hear from me, as I’ll send an update before the end of the year to let you know how the game is doing and what I plan to do next (assuming I’ve made a decision!)
Meanwhile, THANK YOU for the support over the last fifteen months! I hope you like playing Outsider as much as I liked making it!
I’ll talk to you again soon!
Daniel, Galantrix CEO.
